Colour code your wardrobe

Secret Stylist style challenge!

In dark days, we need colour to lift our spirits, our moods and our zooms! Never has there been a better time to re evaluate your wardrobe.

I set myself (and my Style Squad) the task of colour coding their wardrobe, as an experiment to see what colours they have in their wardrobe.

The usual organisation of my wardrobe being; colour coded in garment order, but for this challenge, I put all coloured garment types together.

This was only one side of my wardrobe. The other side I had black clothes, white clothes, grey and pattern (which I also put in print type and attempted to colour code it).

What I discovered.

  1. I had more blue in my wardrobe than any other colour. This surprised me as although I’m drawn to blue denim, navy and sky blue, it is not a colour I would consider as a lead player.

  2. I had invested in lots of hot pink, bubblegum pink. Two suits, trousers, knitwear, skirts and blouses.

  3. I had very little plain red garments - only 4.

  4. I had one bright orange…really love orange!

  5. I had every shade of green and a tiny bit of purple.

  6. Black was in abundance but thankfully a variety of black styled trousers, a silk blouse, classic knitwear and a blazer.

  7. Zero beige and 1 garment of grey (I’m happy with that!)

What you will learn.

By separating the plain coloured garments and the pattern coloured garments you will be able to identify the gaps in your wardrobe.

You’ll see what colours to invest more in.

Your next purchase will become more strategic, less impulse.

Get creative and create new tonal, textured outfits with same colour garments.

Work out what colours suit your skin complexion the most. For example, I have khaki but struggle to wear it this time of year against my face as I’m so pale. In the summer, I can wear it as my skin tone is browner and warmer.

Play around with new colour mixes. Get inspired to mix colour on colour rather than just with black.

For more advise on how you can expand colour, contact me! I can help with a quick virtual 1.1.

I made a little IGTV about my colour coded wardrobe. Watch it here.

I’ve also added to my Style Clinic Workshops to tackle colour. Save the date for Thursday 25th February.
