Virtual Styling funked up Helens Style

Virtual Styling has opened doors to new clients near and far. A few weeks ago, I worked with Helen and she has kindly agreed to allow me to share her story.

Helens wardrobe on first glance was an organised, collection of clothes (she had spent some time decluttering prior to the consultation).

Dynamic prints and poppy colours were jumping out at me through my computer screen.

I immediately noticed the Hell Yes print on the wall behind her and thought that amongst the sensible, thoughtful, organised Helen, there was a little wild fun side to her personality.

As we started talking about her lifestyle, she shared her recent relocation leaving her home county of Cornwall for Bradford on Avon, triggering a life change with her French IT consultant husband and two boys.

As well has diving into a new life, Helen has launched a Website and Marketing business. So, a busy mum, a business owner and a big life change. She confessed feeling confused about her style and has now reached a point where she needs confirmation on what she’s wearing and how she is wearing it.

‘I'M IN WARDROBE RUT, UNSURE HOW TO WEAR THE CLOTHES IN MY WARDROBE, I LIKE THEM BUT I DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND HOW TO WEAR THEM IN MY LIFE NOW. I’M ALSO CONFUSED HOW TO DEVELOP MY STYLE AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO BUY NEXT'.”

HELEN CONFESSED.

Zooming in on the zoom….I could see zebra print, graphic print, star trainers, orange ruffle tops, metallic brogues and statement jewellery.

Clients have their own style. It’s just they are confused what it is and need an expert to teach them how to have confidence just being themselves.

I can quickly identify the person, their personality and how their clothes can (or can’t work).

HELEN, YOU NEED TO GET THE FUNK BACK INTO YOUR STYLE’

‘HELL YES’ REPLIED HELEN

YOU HAVE SOME AMAZING GARMENTS IN YOUR WARDROBE AND I WILL SHOW YOU WHY YOU BOUGHT THEM AND HOW TO WEAR’

So we left the zoom and scheduled 2 x 1 hour Zoom appointments.

Helens grid of garments

Brilliantly Helen sent me an email with images of her individual garments prior to our first appointment, so I was able to refer to her wardrobe grid as we discussed each garment.

  • I offered advice on how to wear the troubled pieces and used the grid rather like a puzzle making suggestions.

  • At the same time Helen stood in front of the camera discussing why she found each garment tricky to wear.

  • We tackled the statement pieces first, A shirt dress, a pleated skirt, a printed pencil skirt and an aline metallic striped party skirt.

  • Helen wanted advice on how to wear these pieces casually now.

  • Helen was often only wearing the garment one way so I was able to inspire her with new, funky ways to wear.

  • I offered her direct advice on how to wear each garment utilising the other items on the grid.

  • We also edited out garments from the grid that compliment the others in her wardrobe.

  • We discussed her body shape what styles would suit and talked colours.

it quickly became apparent that helen was getting more excited about wearing her clothes

I asked her to spend an evening taking pictures of each of the outfits combination I had suggested.

Here are her fab funky four favourites.

The unworn posh party skirt.

I suggested teaming her statement skirt with simple t-shirts so she can wear to more casually (rather than at a party with heels) and the metallic in the skirt worked perfectly with her brogues.

The Zebra print pencil skirt

No more high heels with this funky zebra print skirt and it is now given a creative edge with trainers.

The graphic print shirt dress

Her occasional shirt dress can now be worn casually as a coat over skinny jeans.

The statement bomber jacket.

Her gorgeous printed bomber jacket. The metallic edging looked fabulous with a pop of orange underneath, teamed with navy culottes and metallic brogues

By trying on these new combinations Helen had

  • A personal reassurance that the outfit felt comfortable.

  • Had a recorded image on the outfit.

  • Was able to understand how to wear her clothes for the life she leads now.

  • Learnt new creative ideas to style her clothes.

For our 2nd zoom call, we discussed her outfits any new problem garments and I could then start to offer new suggestions on what she could buy to enhance her wardrobe.

helens got her funk back and she is loving it.

You can get yours back too.
