9 new looks with old party wear

Last weeks Style Clinic was all about re inventing new looks with old party wear.

My challenge for myself and my ‘style clinic squad’ was to revive old party wear, suitable to style for a 2020 Christmas.

My thinking was, we aren’t going to party so let’s bring the party to daytime dressing.

My party wear consisted off

  1. A black glittery jumpsuit

  2. A taffeta pink skirt

  3. A silver skirt

  4. A printed maxi skirt

  5. A slinky sleeveless black dress

  6. A satin ‘straight skirt’ dress

  7. A silky ruffle dress

  8. A pair of diamante jeans

  9. A sequin jacket

Here is what I came up with…..can’t wait to see yours….happy styling!

BLACK GLITTER JUMPSUIT FROM 2018

Layering a black and white Breton t-shirt under my glittery jumpsuit adding a blazer, Chelsea boots - this is a good to go shopping outfit.

Tip! the black leather belt keeps the look casual

VINTAGE TAFFETA SKIRT

I’m re-working this skirt with a loose v neck blue jumper, black tights and black Chelsea boots. I’ll add my biker jacket on top.

Tip! Don’t forget the earrings!

SILVER SKIRT FROM 2015

This skirt works in summer and winter but this Christmas I’m teaming it with my shocking pink cashmere jumper, suede vintage belt and old Boden boots.

Tip! Polish the look with a matching wool coat.

PRINTED MAXI SKIRT

The Breton stripe is a good print mix with the skirt. The blazer gives it a polished daytime feel and I’m wearing my suede mid heel boots so it is a comfortable look to shop in.

Tip! Glittery belt adds some omph!

SLINKY LITTLE BLACK DRESS

I’ve added a sheer polka dot blouse under my sleeveless slinky black dress. I’ve covered my arms, added more texture, resulting in a whole new look for the dress.

Tip! Add drama with a necklace or broach to hide the buttons on the shirt.

SATIN STRAIGHT SKIRT DRESS

Mixing in a couple of colours and textures to a plain evening dress. I’ve layered a bronze turtle neck under the dress, added some plum leather accessories and a tweed coat.

Tip! Search out your faux fur accessories!

SLINKY RUFFLE DRESS

I’ve played down this slinky dress by adding a vintage velvet jacket on top. The jacket is worn like a cardigan and I’ve pulled it together with my plum belt.

Tip! Top to toe ‘one colour’ is a smart, sophisticated way to layer.

DIAMANTE PARTY JEANS

Last years ‘party jeans’ are brought down a peg with a blue cotton oversized shirt and loafers. You could add a pin-stripe blazer but I liked the drama of a vintage cardigan. A grey poncho would also look fab.

Tip! Continue the look with co-ordinated socks.

SEQUIN JACKET

Sequins are not nice to wear against the skin, so I’ve layered over and under knitwear for a glimmer of sparkle and mixed with utility khaki.

Tip! Balance out the sparkle with your accessories, but keep it subtle.
